july

Suddenly it's mid-August and I'm wondering how that is even possible. June and July flew by so quickly, it seems like I barely recall what happened. So...this is the best I can do.

July started off with our second annual trip to Wisconsin Dells. This time we ventured with two other families and stayed together in a large cabin. It was a terrific weekend. We got some adult time and the kids all got along great.

The girls had a blast in the pools and on the slides and by the end of the weekend they were needing no assistance from us. It was nice to just sit back and observe them go down the slides and swim to the sides of the pool themselves. Little Bird got a little cold waiting in line for the big slides so she only went down a few times and let Little Pie take turns with all the adults. We wanted to go down the slides too!

The girls also stayed up for their first fire works show on the fourth. They thought it was AMAZING. I've never heard Little Pie so excited. She was literally impressed with every single firework that was shot. When multiple shows were going on around us, she could hardly contain herself. This video doesn't even capture half of her excitement, but it gives you a good idea. Don't you wish you were there?

When we returned from our trip, we finished up soccer/t-ball. While I thought the girls would really enjoy soccer, it turns out they much preferred t-ball. I think they will want to sign up for it again next summer. (I didn't quite catch Little Bird's hit at the beginning, but it was a good one!)

We missed Rob all throughout the middle of July. He was gone for 13 days for an "around the world" trip. He started in Shanghai, then went on to Bangalore, India, and finally to Scotland (with stops in Seattle, Hong Kong, Paris and Amsterdam). I was exhausted just thinking about the travel, and he apparently was too since he went to bed at 8pm for almost a week upon his return. We were beyond excited to welcome him home!

We did keep busy, however, while Rob was gone. We went to the Children's Theater to see If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Little Pie was practically rolling on the floor with laughter. The mouse was pretty hysterical.

We celebrated Uncle Drew's birthday at the Twins' game. It was a night game so the girls were pretty tired, but they did very well. Little Bird got to high five TC Bear (unfortunately Little Pie and I were in the bathroom so we missed it. Surprisingly Little Pie was not upset). The girls were very excited that the Twins won "for Uncle's birthday".

We went to Faribault to stay with Nana and Papa for the rest of the weekend. It was another beautiful day for the Andy Dean Open.

It was nice to pass the time at Nana and Papa's.

At the end of July the girls did a four day art camp. They LOVED it. I was sort of surprised because they don't really have the patience for crafts (fine by me!). But apparently they need the right instructor/setting. After the first day they were already asking if they can sign up for camp next summer.

On the last day of the four day camp, parents were invited to come 15 minutes early to pick up so as to view the "art show". All the girls were so proud to show off their work. They had real art displays and took their work home in their own portfolio (or cortfolio as Little Pie says).

I'm very happy that August has turned out to be a much slower pace!
