Since Rob was out of town all of last week, we had a very low key weekend. We got a lot of stuff done around the house which feels really good. The girls played outside with the neighbor kids all day, every day. It's great that they have friends right next door that they LOVE to play with. The moms even enjoyed a glass of wine on the deck one night! 

On Monday, we decided we had enough "working" around the house, so we opted to take the girls to Apple Jacks Orchard. We were already out of the Honeycrisp apples Nana got us last week, so Rob was desperate to restock our supply. 

So the day wasn't really an apple orchard-y kind of day what with the temperatures close to 90, but we managed to still have fun.

It didn't take either girl long to choose what she wanted painted on her face.

After running around a bit, we bought the girls a "ticket" for the cow train.

Perk of a hot summery day: no lines.

Little Bird has a doll named Sadie.

Pretty soon we were very sweaty and we were dying to get out of the sun. It was time to pick our apples and head out.

Rob is such a sucker. I would make them walk!

It was getting to be lunch time and we were all dying of thirst, so we stopped at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve. I couldn't remember if there was a play area, but we needed a spot to eat our picnic. We were in luck; there is a great play area that was somewhat in the shade! The girls could have spent the entire day here.

I'm proud to say that Little Bird has become more outgoing when playing with random kids. Little Pie has always gone right up to a kid and introduced herself. Now Little Bird is doing more of that and needing to follow her sister less. It makes me feel good as they start preschool next week where I don't want Little Bird to be overshadowed by her more extroverted sister.

Even though the play equipment was somewhat in the shade, we were still dying from the heat. I was ready for some ice cream, so after a quick trip down to the lake we headed home (after getting ice cream, of course).

"Mom, I wish we could have a boat so we could ride a boat in the lake."

"Mom, I wish we had a fishing pole so we could go fishing."

We had a very lovely day, even though it started off rough when we pulled the girls away from playing with their friends to leave for our little family outing. I like long weekends at home; getting things done and having fun helps us recharge and prepare for our new fall schedule.
