This weekend we went to visit Grandma and Grandpa; and to see Elmo...Live! We talked about going to see Elmo for a couple of days before, but the girls had no idea what they were about to get themselves into!
The 3 hour drive to see Grandma and Grandpa is usually a challenge, but this time it was beyond a challenge. Daddy and I are starting to regret not getting the DVD package in the van. (We thought that since we survived without it when we were kids so could the girls and they should learn to entertain themselves in the car. Ha! Who are we kidding?!? The DVD is not for them, it's for us! So we can have a PEACEFUL trip in the car). Anyway, we left home during nap time thinking the girls would nap on the way there. No. They don't nap in the car anymore. They both dozed for about 30 minutes and then Little Pie woke up and CRIED HARD for an entire hour. We tried everything we could think of ... even stopping at a rest area to see if running around would help. Nope. She just cried until she couldn't cry anymore. She was sure happy to see Grandma and Grandpa though!
Grandma and Grandpa got the girls new Elmo jammies to get them prepared for the Elmo show. They sure love these cozy jammies!!

I love Little Bird's big cheese.
All set to see Elmo!! They have no idea what's going on, but are willing to go along with us!
The Elmo show was a HUGE hit with the girls. Little Bird was so into it. She wasn't scared or nervous about the unusual setting (they turned the lights down in the stadium and I thought it would freak the girls out). The characters started coming out one by one and she started yelling out their names...it was like she couldn't believe they were there! I don't think I watched much of the show because I kept watching her and her reactions. She was always so concerned about who WASN'T on the stage. Any time a character went off stage she would say, "Where did Ernie go?" "Where did Big Bird go?" "Where did Osacar go?" (That's how she says Oscar). Little Bird had a great time sitting on Grandma's lap and dancing and clapping. She definitely LOVED the show.
Little Bird having the time of her life!
Little Pie was of course a little more reserved about what was going on. She instantly became a koala when we sat down and needed to be on my lap. She whined a little because she didn't know what was going on. When the lights went down, she got a little scared. And when the music started playing she was more unsure about what was going on. It just takes her some time to take in a new situation and see if it's good for her. After the characters started coming out and singing and dancing she soon realized it was just Elmo and his friends and she settled down and watched very intently. She didn't say much and sucked her thumb quite a bit, but she definitely enjoyed it. When we were leaving she kept saying "Fun Elmo show".
Sitting with Daddy and Uncle Rye. Little Pie liked the show but was very quiet throughout. We think that since she is getting her two year molars, she is not quite herself.
On to the molars...Little Pie is getting her two year molars right now. She has never had a problem with teething (complete opposite of Little Bird). It always seemed like one day we would look at her and she'd have a new tooth. But these molars are a totally different story. I think the cry fest in the car was partially due to molars and partially due to being overtired. Anyway, Little Pie has not been herself...eating poorly, whining a lot, crying for no reason, fighting with Little Bird, and chewing on weird things. Naps have been tough too. She doesn't take very long ones and then wakes up EXTREMELY crabby. Yesterday she woke and cried for 45 minutes. Nothing we did seemed to relieve her. She screamed and cried and laid on the floor kicking. It was quite the sight. Finally I thought of giving her a popsicle and all of sudden she snapped out of it. She sat on the floor and watched football and at her "popisicle". In fact, she had to have 2 of them. Whatever works, right??
I'm not looking forward to when Little Bird's molars start popping through. She definitely is one that cannot tolerate teething pain. Oh boy!
